SAFE's Mission

The mission of the StraightTalk® Association for Financial Empowerment (SAFE) is to provide all members of our community with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary for financial success throughout all phases of life.

We will achieve this by:

  • Supporting educational programs that build personal financial skills and provide a solid foundation for future financial prosperity

  • Acting as a trusted resource for our local community.  We will provide financial tools and information that build sound financial knowledge, which will, in turn, improve the financial future of our community.

  • Encouraging financial self-sufficiency and good financial judgment for those in all phases of life.

History

The StraightTalk® Association for Financial Empowerment began in 2010 in response to a growing need for proactive financial education. As financial educators and community volunteers, SAFE's founders worked with many individuals who found themselves in difficult financial situations that could have been prevented with the right information at the right time.

SAFE’s founders believed in the need to connect people with financial education before crisis strikes and sought ways to do this that would also encourage other community members to get involved in the effort. After a few brainstorming sessions, SAFE was formed with the vision of achieving these goals. In the fall of 2011, the Association established its first website, published its first newsletter, and sponsored several financial education programs in the Southern Tier.

To help the Association increase its impact, SAFE's team of volunteers continuously looks for new opportunities to support programs and get involved with our communities. Our Board and volunteer staff welcome your ideas and suggestions and hope you will join us in our efforts to make everyone in our communities more financially empowered.
